What to Leave Behind in 2024—And Build in the New Year
Set the tone for a more intentional year ahead.
As we close out 2024, we’re taking extra time to pause and reflect. What did this year teach you? What are you ready to leave behind—and what will you carry forward into 2025?
In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to lose sight of the habits, mindsets, and practices that no longer serve us. But intentional leadership starts with moments like this—slowing down to recharge and realign ourselves with what truly matters.
This year was a special one for us at The Humanity Studio. We launched with a mission to put humanity back at the heart of business. In a time of profound change—driven by distributed teams, generative AI, and unprecedented workplace disruption—we knew leaders would need new tools, resources, and communities to navigate what’s ahead. We’ve been humbled by the response and inspired by the conversations we’ve had with all of you—leaders committed to forging a human-powered future of work.
As we look ahead, one thing is clear: navigating this supercycle of change requires more than just resilience. It calls for vision, connection, and the courage to lead with humanity. For us, that means doubling down on our mission to support leaders like you—because when leaders thrive, teams and communities thrive too.
Before we sign off for the year, we’d love to hear from you. What would you like to see more of in 2025? What can we do better? Take a moment to share your thoughts in our quick poll below—we’re building this space for you, and your voice matters.

What We’re Leaving in 2024
As leaders, it’s easy to get caught up in habits that don’t align with our values or long-term goals. Here are three things we’re ready to leave behind—and what we’re building in their place:
Overworking Ourselves →
We’re embracing boundaries and prioritizing well-being. When leaders model rest, it creates space for their teams to do the same.Reactive Decision-Making →
We’re making time for thoughtful, strategic thinking. Resilience comes from clarity and planning, not constant pivoting.Toxic Productivity →
We’re valuing presence over perfection. Outcomes over hours worked. The best leadership happens when we slow down and reorient around purpose. The Need to Control Everything →
We’re practicing trust and delegation. True leadership isn’t about doing it all yourself—it’s about empowering others to take ownership and thrive.
What will you leave behind in 2024?
As we plan for 2025, we’d love to hear from you. What topics, tools, or ideas would you like us to explore in the coming year?
Tip: When you click through with your answer to the poll below, you’ll be able to tell us more in the open response box.

10-Minute Takeaway: Start 2025 with Clarity and Intention
Here’s a simple exercise to guide your leadership in 2025:
Pick one word that will define your leadership in the year ahead. It might be trust, focus, courage, or something personal to you. Write it down, and brainstorm three small actions you can take to embody it in your daily work.
By anchoring your intentions to a single word, you’ll stay aligned with your goals and values—even when the year gets busy (as it inevitably will).
A Dose of Humanity for a New Year
As the ever-wise Mary Oliver reminds us in this beautiful poem, every moment is an opportunity to reconnect with our purpose and choose how we’ll shape the future—both for ourselves and those we lead.
Mornings at Blackwater
For years, every morning, I drank
from Blackwater Pond.
It was flavored with oak leaves and also, no doubt,
the feet of ducks.
And always it assuaged me
from the dry bowl of the very far past.
What I want to say is
that the past is the past,
and the present is what your life is,
and you are capable
of choosing what that will be,
darling citizen.
So come to the pond,
or the river of your imagination,
or the harbor of your longing,
and put your lips to the world.
And live
your life.
Thank you for being here. Until next week,
